In your editing program (I use LR), choose a paper size that is 1.1" longer than your actual canvas to account for the extra length of the leader. Again, you can save these settings for future use.Ħ. Set the Paper Thickness to 5 and the platen Gap to Wider under Paper Configuration. You can save that User Defined setting for future use if you want. 1" to allow for the tiny width of the hinge itself. This takes the extra length of the leader into consideration. In the printer preferences dialogue box for the 3880 make sure you create a User Defined paper size that is 1.1" longer than your canvas. This will provide the necessary stiffness for the leader so that it will resist bending at hinge of the canvas/leader junction as you feed into the 3880.ĥ. Take a second piece of 2" FrogTape and reinforce the original tape. You should now have a 1" leader stuck onto the end of the canvas with the canvas and leader both having the same print side.Ĥ. The tape overhang will now be over the back of the end of the canvas. With the canvas print face side down, carefully butt the leader (also will be print face side down) to the end.
You don't have to be exact here but I generally have a tape overhang of 1.5" with. Using painter's masking tape (I use 2" wide FrogTape), attach the back side of that 1" strip so that the tape overhangs the photo paper.
Cut a 1" strip of regular photo paper that is the width of your canvas piece. I'll describe the one that worked best for me.ġ. There are several ways to make the 3880 behave itself with canvas. I've also had some success storing pre-cut pieces between matte boards with weight on top. To get my canvas as flat as possible, I leave it on the roll sealed up and cut it just before use. I've read that lightly spraying the back of the canvas with water will temporarily flatten it, but have not tried this. I'm not sure whether it's absorbing moisture or drying out that causes the curl, but curl it does.
It should be fed into the rear (attached) tray, but you need to create a leader.Ĭanvas curls - both as the result of being stored on a roll and because of exposure to the atmosphere. I've actually been successful at running canvas through the main feed tray but I picked up some ink on the back side and this method is definitely not recommended. This is probably due to a slight curl at the leading edge. The primary reason the 3880 is rejecting your canvas is that the paper sensor is not properly seeing the canvas and therefore rejects it.
